Jay Schwedelson:

Foreign welcome to do this not that, the podcast for marketers. You'll walk away from each episode with actionable tips you can test immediately.

You'll hear from the best minds in marketing who will share tactics, quick wins and pitfalls to avoid. Also dig into life, pop culture and the chaos that is our everyday. I'm Jay Schwedelson. Let's do this.

Not that we are here for what's up this week from do this not that.

This is our short episode where we break down what is going on this week and then we still have our ask Us Anything a little later in the week and then at the end of the week it's our longer episode with tactics and tips and stuff. So what is going on this week? Well, the biggest news is that Google once again has delayed the phase out of cookies. Yup.

Google has decided that they are delaying the depreciation of third party cookies. So no, cookies are not going away for marketers or anyone else at the end of this year.

This is actually the third time that Google has delayed the removal of cookie tracking and basically here's what they're saying. This is their quote.

We recognize there are ongoing challenges related to reconciling divergent feedback from the industry, regulators and developers and will continue to engage closely with the entire ecosystem, whatever that means.

not happen at least well into:

Well, are you a cool kid or are you one of those people that always know what's going on? Well, if you do, then you know about the hot new app called no Space. No Space is this new social media app that's actually not even available.

It's geared towards gen zers, but it's this hot new thing everyone's trying to sign up for. They have a wait list of 500,000 people. Again, it's called no Space.

It's primarily a text based social media app, as if the world needs another social media app. And the whole idea of it is to kind of go retro.

There's a lot of retro look and feel to it and functionality is retro and it's about allowing people to really connect with their friends.

But the reason I think society will collapse with this app, especially our youth, is that the biggest feature they have is something that actually is similar to back in the day with MySpace. MySpace had a feature called Top 8 Friends where you could actually list and pin who your top eight friends friends were on the app.

Well, no Space has something very similar where you're gonna be able to pin your top friends with a list of who they are for everybody to see. So that's gonna be fun. That's called no Space. That's coming out in June. But the waitlist is growing. The other thing that's growing is Threads.

You know, it's weird. Threads doesn't feel like it's growing. I don't go on there, like every minute of every day, but it really is growing.

This is a stat that I really am suspect on. But according to the latest data from Apptopia, which is legit, okay, Threads is seeing a steady rise in daily active users.

And they're saying that they're now beating X and Daily Actor use. Daily active users in the US Market specifically.

So they're saying this week, they said so far in April, Threads has averaged an estimated 28 million daily active users in the United States. So people that have at least opened the app once in a 24 hour period.

And X, the old Twitter, has averaged 22 million daily active users in the United States. I mean, that's a little much for me to think that Threads has passed X.

And keep in mind, x does have 250 million daily active users, but that's worldwide. And Meta just reported that threads now has 150 million daily active users. So Threads is still well behind X, but it is growing.

And if you're not on there, I think you're missing out. I got to get on there more. I just do. So what else is going on this week that is totally useless? Well, I went to the movies and you know what?

It was great. I saw Challengers, which has Star Zendaya, and it was awesome. If you. It's a tennis movie and I didn't want to go because I don't really.

I mean, I don't care about tennis as much. Whatever, it's great. Who cares? But I went and it was really good. It's not for kids. Okay, don't bring your kids this movie. That'll be a fail.

But it was a really, really good movie and it made me like, you know what? I need to start going to movies again. First of all, I ate an enormous amount of popcorn. I mean, popcorn at the movies is a win. I wanted snow caps.

That's my jam. They didn't have snow caps, so I had to get the mini Reese's Pieces. Things that are like M M's. Those are okay. But I'm all about snow caps.

Why am I telling you that? I don't know. But I've decided I need to start going to more movies. So this week coming out or.

Yeah, this week coming out is the Fall Guy and that's got Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. I want to go see that. That looks great. And then I know movie you won't care about a week later is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Very into this.

I will be going to that. So, yeah, we need. I need more movies. How come you know, it was so crazy?

I'm like, oh, I was telling my wife we got to go on the app and we got to get the seats. We need the seats or else we're not going to have good seats. There was like four people in the movie theater. Very sad.

So I hope everyone starts going back to the movies. I hope they have snow caps at my movie theater soon. So if anybody's listening out there from Cinemark, step it up. Give me some snow caps.

And I appreciate everyone being here. Check out our ask us anything a little later this week and the end of the week, our longer episode and hope you have a great week. You did it.

You made it to the end. Nice. But the party's not over.
