In this week’s “What’s Up This Week” episode, Jay discusses key insights from a recent study on optimal platforms for short-form video content. He also shares updates on the latest season of The Bachelor.
Main Discussion Points:
– A study by Amplify analyzing 1300 brands on TikTok and Instagram found Instagram Reels delivers significantly higher reach and engagement for short-form video compared to other platforms.
– Instagram Reels delivers 6x the reach compared to Instagram Stories, yet brands are posting 5x more Stories.
– Business brands should lean more into Instagram Reels for short-form video instead of assuming it’s only for consumer audiences.

Foreign welcome back to another what's up this week from do this, not that. So we're testing out these new formats, right?
This is a super short format we do at the start of every week to share what do we see that's going on to start out the week that's super interesting.
And then we still do our Ask Us Anything, which is on Wednesdays we're also really short and at the end of the week we release our longer 10 minute episode which has tips and tactics and stuff. And hopefully you're liking these different formats. We're testing them out.
We still know exactly the path but we're going to keep on messing around with stuff and hopefully it's interesting and fun and has some value for you. Thanks for being here. So what is going on this week?
Well, I was just reading through this study which I thought was super interesting from a company called Emplify. They just released it and the study was all about where you should be putting your short form video content to get the maximum reach.
And the reason this was interesting to me is that we've been really analyzing where we should expand our social media presence. Pretty heavy on LinkedIn. We've been on X for a while, which is really going into the toilet in terms of our performance there.
And we're like where should we expand? And we've been looking and especially because we're rolling out so much short form video content, where should we be putting it all?
And so we've been looking should we be on TikTok or should we be on Instagram? Where's the place to be? And everyone always talks about TikTok, TikTok, TikTok, which is great.
me out from Amplify looked at:And I was surprised, but they found that Instagram, specifically Instagram reels, has far and away the greatest reach, the highest level of engagement than any other short form video content play that you can do. And I didn't expect it to crush TikTok as much as it did, which is good for me to know for my own company, but also for you to know.
Because if you're looking at where should I spend my time, my energy, because you only have so much of it, where should you spend it? It's really on Instagram. And it's not Instagram stories, it's not Instagram stories, it's Instagram reels.
Instagram reels are significantly outperforming Instagram stories delivering six times the reach, which is pretty wild. So if you have short form video content, you really want to be thinking about Instagram reels specifically.
And one of the stats they came out with was that between May and October of this past year, the number of Instagram stories posted by brands, it was five times the number of reels posted.
Which is interesting because the reels are delivering six times the reach of stories and yet there's five times more number of stories being posted than reels.
So not only will your re reels get the reach, but there's just not as much of them out there, which is probably part of the reason you're going to get the reach. And you know, a lot of business marketers, because I know that people listens, are both consumer and business marketers.
A lot of business marketers may be like, oh, I'm not going on Instagram. That's only for, you know, the Kardashians and, and for ridiculous things. And that couldn't be further from the truth.
And more and more and more business brands are going to be leaning into Instagram. So I strongly suggest looking at Instagram reels specifically and testing that. And don't worry if you get low engagement to start out. Who cares?
Just keep going.
So what else is going on this week that's definitely not important, that you definitely won't care about is that this week is the Golden Bachelor wedding. That's right. That's completely irrelevant information.
But this Thursday, Gary spelled Jerry from the Golden Bachelor, which is on abc, which is that reality show is marrying Teresa and it's going to be live on abc.
Now, if you listen to this podcast or you know me, you may be like, oh, wow, Jay's definitely going to be into that wedding because I watch epically horrible reality TV and I am interested in it, but I don't think I'm going to be watching. And the reason I don't think I'm gonna watch is I'm very upset. I'm upset with how it all turned out.
After the the Golden Bachelor ended, we found out that Gary wasn't really telling the truth about all the past relationships he had and a lot of the stuff he said on the show. And frankly, it pissed me off. It did.
I invested all this time, I follow the journey, and I find out, like know, 48 hours after the show ends that this dude is not the dude I thought he was. All right, now, that being said, anything in the Bachelor universe, I'm going to watch.
And I want these people to have a wonderful life and be happy and whatever, but he's sort of a little full of it. So I don't know. But that's this week, definitely not important. So maybe check that out.
I don't know Anyway, but what you should definitely check out is our Ask us anything that'll be released later this week and also our longer episode, our 10 minute episodes on Fridays where we are always sharing tactics, tips and stuff.
