This short episode of Ask Us ANYTHING features Jay answering two listener questions – one about getting a promotion at work in marketing, and one asking for fantasy football advice. Listeners can expect tips from Jay on making the most of work software subscriptions to stand out at work, as well as a humorous take on Jay’s own lack of fantasy football knowledge.
Main Discussion Points:
– Many companies use only 10% of the capabilities of the expensive software they subscribe to. Doing a deep dive demo into these platforms and reporting back on unused features can help you get a promotion or improve productivity.
– Fantasy football advice – both Jay and the listener have struggling teams. Jay suggests having fun and embracing the losing team rather than getting frustrated.

Foreign. We're trying something new, an additional episode, a new little format. We get a lot of questions written in all over the place. Questions.
So each week we're going to try to release a midweek short episode called Ask Us Anything because we get a lot of random questions. We're going to answer one question about work stuff and one question about who knows what because we get a lot of weird questions. So here we go.
So this week I got a question in from Stacy, who is from New Jersey, and she asked us, she said, I'm trying to get a promotion in my marketing job. Do you have any suggestions? So here's one thought I would put out there.
If you're trying to get a promotion or in general, you're just trying to up your game in your business. All of us have a lot of different things in our Martech stack. Lots of different platforms that we're using.
We're using an email platform, a CRM, a zillion other platforms that we pay a lot of money for at our companies and we subscribe to.
And I will tell you, in general, I think most companies are using like 10% of the capabilities of all these different expensive platforms and applications that they're subscribed to. What does that mean relating to getting a promotion?
If you literally go to your boss or even if you own your company or whatever you're doing, say I want to do a demo with each of the companies that we already have a subscription to each of their platforms, and I'm going to do a demo of the latest and greatest the bells and whistles that we already pay for. And then I want to report back on things that we're not taking advantage of on platforms and applications that we are already paying for.
And I want to present back things that we can be using, right, that cost us nothing extra so we can get more out of what we are subscribed to. I am telling you, you will be shocked at what you have at your fingertips that cost you no additional money.
So if you want to get a promotion or you just want to radically increase the productivity of your company and everything that it's doing, go to all the different things you're already paying for, get a demo from their top person of what you already have access to, and then report back to your team.
And I'm telling you, you're going to seem like a hero because you are a hero, because you're squeezing out more benefit from dollars that are already spent. All right, number two, this has nothing to do with work we got a question from Rob from Ohio. Rob says my fantasy football team stinks.
Help me, Rob, I cannot help you because my fantasy football team stinks. I have a fantasy football. I'm in a league with about 12 of my friends from college. I've been doing it for 25 years.
And the problem is is that it's like I know probably 20 players in the NFL. After that, I have no idea who any of these people are.
Okay, so when you're supposed to be adding people to your team throughout the year, I can't do it because I don't know who they are. Right. I am clueless. So my team also stinks. So my advice to you is embrace the stink and try to have fun. I don't know what to tell you.
Don't be horrible. All right, thanks for giving this new content type a try. Ask us anything.
Drop me an email, drop me a DM with any question you have about anything, and let's have it on the episode. Thanks for being here. You did it. You made it to the end. Nice. But the party's not over.
